Meet Ruth Kendall!
Ruth Kendall feels privileged to operate a local, independent business that carries products that would otherwise be unavailable to Haida Gwaii residents. Not only that, but she is able to provide them at lower-than-retail prices, often for even less than they can be bought in larger mainland centres. This is something that Ruth is proud of, knowing first hand that island living can be costly. Being able to give island residents a little break makes her job worthwhile and rewarding.
Despite some of the challenges that come with island living, it pays off in dividends in other ways. The incredible scenery is one of Haida Gwaii’s greatest assets, and its unspoiled beauty and serenity make it a joyous place to live. When Ruth isn’t busy working, she likes to spend time outdoors, sitting back with a cup of hot coffee and watching and listening to the ocean waves roll in. Sometimes she goes out exploring her favourite island places, like the Yakoun River.
Most of all, Haida Gwaii’s people are what make it a special place. Residents are friendly and caring, and it is a safe place to live and work. Ruth is grateful to the people who live here for being so dedicated to their community and willing to help out when others are in need, as well as their willingness to support local independent businesses.
