Meet Laina Holland & Kirt Holland
Laina and Kirt Holland both grew up in Masset and are deeply tied to both the community and to the magnificent land and waters around it. Both fished the waters of the Tlell River as youngsters which subsequently lead to a lifelong passion for fishing. However, the couple knows that there is much more to Haida Gwaii than fishing. One thing that they hope to do for each and every client is to ignite a spark of appreciation for Haida Gwaii’s sights and amazing culture and history through their tours and charter excursions. Says Laina, “we provide the people of Haida Gwaii and visitors a chance to see Haida Gwaii’s past, present and future.”
The Hollands are very committed to conservation and preservation of the natural eco-system. Both are concerned with ensuring that the eco-system remains sustainable and viable for future generations, and this idea is something that they weave into their tours. They talk to guests about the importance of the various parts of the local natural environment to the Haida culture. Tours always take into account the flora and fauna of the islands, and the Hollands work to give their clients a view of the sights without disturbing the life they contain.
Kirt and Laina are proud of their business and of the opportunities it has given them to “show the world what Haida Gwaii has to offer beyond the pavement.” They feel privileged to be able to make a profession on the waters that they have both loved for their whole lives, and they never get tired of being out on the water. When they aren’t busy showing Haida Gwaii to their guests, they’re often out fishing themselves or exploring the local beaches.
